There are two distinct conservation areas in the Kungwini municipality these are: Bronkies (Bronkhorstspruit dam) & Die Draai.

The town of Bronkhorstspruit is named after a water plant called "Bronkhorsts" known as a water crescent. The municipal jurisdiction of Bronkhorstspruit is called Kungwini which means a "Place of Mist". It was originally a railway station established in 1899, it only became a town in 1904.
