The Kungwini Local Municipality is classified as a Category B municipality in terms of Chapter 7 of the Constitution of South Africa Act, 1996 (Act 108 of 1996).	Kungwini is primarily a rural area with a significant but somewhat underdeveloped agricultural base.	There are two distinct conservation areas in the Kungwini municipality these are: Bronkies (Bronkhorstspruit dam) & Die Draai.
